Homemade Baby Food

I honestly never thought that I’d be the mom who cared about making my baby’s food, but I am.  I’m not going to lie and say she hasn’t had store bought food because she definitely has, but I’ve very picky about what brands of store bought food she can eat.  There are a few out there that are completely organic and don’t have any strange ingredients added in, so in a pinch that’s what EJ eats (mainly if we are traveling or if she’s at my MIL’s, just because it’s more convenient).  On a typical day though, EJ eats homemade baby food.

I’ve mentioned before that I have a Baby Brezza.  It’s a one-machine-does-all thing.  I love it.  Initially I just pureed the veggies and gave them to EJ one at a time.  Now that she’s getting older I’ve been mixing flavors and increasing texture so that she has a good palette and is interested in a variety of food.  We use this cookbook to find new recipes and ideas for mixing up the foods.  It’s so simple to make and it’s so much better for her than store bought!

Apples, plums and chicken noodle soup.

Applesauce with cinnamon.

Now that EJ is almost a year old (eeek!!!), I’ve started adding more “regular food” into her diet, whether that’s feeding her mashed potatoes, noodles, yogurt or veggies that I’ve cooked in a stew, rather than pureeing everything, but she still gets most of her food-nutrition from homemade baby food.  It’s really been a fun experience!
