OMG. It’s crazy to say that EJ is a year old! She was born at 11:45 pm on January 25th, so it’s almost as though her birthday should really be on the 26th. Two nights ago I put her to sleep saying “tomorrow is your birthday,” and last night I said “tomorrow you’ll be one” because I like to keep things all official like that. And then last night DG and I were up late going over house design stuff when I looked at the clock and realized that EJ finally really was one! I commented that it was finally her actual birthday and then we laughed over the fact that I would have only seen her for a brief moment at that time (it was about 11:50 when we were talking about this), and then she was taken away so I could be sewed up and recover. I didn’t see her, let alone get to hold her for about another hour and a half. That was so hard! It’s been a wild year from the very start, but EJ sure makes our lives shine. I don’t think I could have asked for a more pleasant, good-natured little girl. I really hope she stays this sweet, especially as a teenager!

Now that EJ is one, she doesn’t have any more dietary restrictions. She loves to eat table food with us, but sometimes when we’re on the go she just gets baby food. The table food is definitely more filling, but not always as healthy. EJ was pretty slow to pull herself up on things and she doesn’t have much of an interest in walking. I’m sure that one day it’s going to click and she’ll be off like a rocket, but right now she’s content to crawl. She’s down to one long nap in the late morning and a very short 20-30 minute nap in the afternoon. The rest of the time she stays busy playing, snooping around and she absolutely loves books!

I made EJ a special birthday poster that we displayed at her baptism, birthday party and for her pictures. Funny enough, I was worried she’d learn to walk in that week and I’d have to change the poster, but the only thing she added was saying “thank you.” If she’s not going to say “mama” regularly, at least she’s polite!

I never knew I could love someone as much as I do my little girl. She’s absolutely amazing! I love you, EJ!
