Hi friends! Can you believe it’s already the last week of July? I haven’t blogged all month because we have been so busy. Now I’m in denial that we only have three more Fridays before BG goes back to school! Until then we are super busy getting his stock show steers ready for the county fair on August 9th, and as soon as that is over we are going on a quick trip to Yellowstone. What have we been doing you might wonder? Here’s a little peak.

Right after the 4th of July we left for Maui. This was a first trip to Hawaii for all of us, and we absolutely loved it. I plan on doing a full post later, but we stayed in Kaanapali and couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. The kids could easily have stayed another week playing on the beach and been just fine.

There are so many rodeos in Utah between the 4th and 24th of July. We’ve gone to watch the kids’ Uncle Tait rope whenever we can.

We made a quick trip to the feedlot in Northern Colorado and caught a Denver Rockies game as we were passing through town. I’d never been to a MLB game, so this was a bucket list item for me. Obviously it would have been a million times cooler to see the Yankees or Red Sox play, but the game was still fun.

Stock Show Life

Our evenings are spent at the pen of show steers. BG started with three steers, but this red one is light and won’t meet the minimum weight requirements so we cut him from the bunch this week and are now focusing on the two steers he’s going to show. This is the first year that BG is old enough to participate in the stock show. I didn’t show animals as a kid so I’m learning a lot. Even when he’s gone I’m out there washing, combing and trying to work with his steers as much as I can. It’s quite the experience. I got kicked by one of his steers this week and wanted to throw in the towel, but at the same time it just makes you more determined to work with them more to get them gentle for your kid. I can officially say I’m a stock show mom now.

That’s a brief catchup of our past month. Obviously I skipped a 4th of July post. The kids have also been swimming, went to their cousin Oliver’s 6th birthday party, camped played with friends, went bowling and spent more hours outside than we can ever count.

If you’re involved in the stock show please give me tips for a first show or if you’ve visited Yellowstone leave a comment about what we can’t miss while we’re there (besides Old Faithful!).

  1. You really have been busy!! Leopold’s never been to a rodeo! I need to look for some that are near me. And Hawaii looks GORGEOUS. I can’t wait to see the full post on that!

  2. Sounds like you had just an awesome month! I remember going to my first rodeo up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and I was just fascinated by it!

  3. What a busy Summer! I’ve never been to a rodeo before, but it looks like a ton of fun! School starts back here on August 7, and I am not ready.
