Friday Five

Happy, happy Friday! It finally feels like the first Friday of fall and I’m so excited for the cooler weather. I might finally get my fall decorations out this weekend. I’d been holding off because the thought of fall leaves and pumpkins seems strange when we have temps in the 90s! I’m linking up again with five of my favorite things this week and here we go.

E started dance class on Wednesday. Tiny leotards and tiny ballet shoes are the cutest things. She’s in the 2-3 year old class and it was super chaotic, but will hopefully get better so the girls learn something. My niece is also in the class with her and they were adorable! Next week they both have singing class together too.

I’ve always been a huge fan of leopard and cheetah prints. I don’t wear a lot of color, but animal print is a neutral to me, so I love that it was so huge at NY Fashion Week. Obviously I’m not going to be the cutest version of myself this fall since I’m pregnant and don’t love maternity fashion, but I updated my fall wardrobe with this cheetah duster from Big Bratt Boutique and am actually wearing it today. If I make it to the NFR this year, and that’s a big if considering I’ll be 39 weeks, I’ll definitely pack this. I love the versatility of dusters–I wear them with everything from jeans and t-shirts as pictured to leggings and tunics or even over dresses. Speaking of animal print, I’m debating on whether I should get these leopard mules. I can’t decide if I should jump on the mule bandwagon or not. I don’t fully know how/what to wear them with.

It rained all day yesterday which means it’s time for all of the comfort food. I made a one pot hamburger, pasta and vegetable soup last night and my kids at it up!

finally ordered a big girl bed for E this week. It’s taken me awhile to find something I liked, but I finally found a bedroom set at Pottery Barn Teen. The price difference between a twin bed to queen was really small, and since I was investing a good amount on the dresser and nightstand I decided to get the queen so the set will last her longer. Hopefully she’ll have it forever! I envisioned antique white furniture with gold hardware for her room. This furniture has a vintage look to it and will be easy to add gold hardware without having to refinish old furniture, which is a much better option for me since everyone knows I’m not a great DIY-er. I’m worried about how she will do in a big bed though since she sleeps so good in her crib. I really hate the thought of having her wake up 5 million times at night or having the freedom to get out of bed herself. Seriously, right now she goes down at 7:30 without complaint and sleeps a good 12 hours straight if I let her. That’s why we never converted the crib to a toddler bed! Who would want to mess up that routine?

I’m almost embarrassed to admit how long it’s taken for our playroom to finally get organized, but I’m starting to like it! When we were building I considered having shelves installed, similar to those in our closets but the builders told me it would end up looking ugly. Then I figured I could easily find a piece of furniture to store all of the toys, but it took almost an entire year. I searched high and low and ended up purchasing the Cameron Storage System from Pottery Barn Kids. I know I probably could have had someone build something for me for less money, but the chocolate color matched my wood perfectly, the dimensions worked and it was something I could buy and get done and quit worrying about. Or at least that’s what I thought. It ended up shipping to me in several boxes (my poor UPS man!!) and I had to put together each piece. It really wasn’t that hard–I did it all myself and didn’t mess anything up, then I had my brother in law connect the pieces to one another in the play room so that they didn’t fall on the kids when they were getting toys down. I bought the storage cubes from Land of Nod and now I need to find some cute black, white and gold decor for the top of the unit. I have some cute prints on the walls, but don’t have any idea what could go on top!

That’s all for this week. I’m hoping to make some fall goodies over the weekend and I’ll be sure to share recipes next week! Go check out the rest of the girls on the link up!
